New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis was a critical piece for the team on the field last season, playing at a high level that helped the team reach the NFC Championship game. It's Davis' off the field contributions, however, that have elevated him to elite company among his peers.
Davis has consistently used his platform to advocate for causes, both social justice related and otherwise, that he sees as critically important for underprivileged groups across the country. It was just last year that Davis, along with teammate Benjamin Watson, helped spearhead an effort to restore voting rights for ex-felons in Louisiana who, up to then, were ineligible to vote while on probation or parole. Now, Davis, along with friend and fellow NFL player Josh Norman, are helping raise awareness about the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
The duo spent two days in Flint last month, meeting with citizens and city leaders about the crisis. What they found were people who feel abandoned and forgotten. Abandoned and forgotten by the same government who helped cause the humanitarian disaster in the first place.
I had a chance to talk to Davis about his time in Flint, and his advocacy for the citizens of the embattled city. Listen to our conversation in the podcast below, or by clicking here.
