The Saints season opener is one week from today and the status of linebacker Alex Anazlone and Craig Robertson are a big question mark since both got injured in the preseason. Anzalone left the opener against the Vikings and has not practiced since, while Roberston has been out since he left the field in the 2nd preseason contest against the Chargers.

“We feel like Alex is going to be healthy for the start of the season,” said Coach Sean Payton on his Monday morning teleconference with the media. “Craig will be someone we’ll discuss day-to-day to see where he is at. “

Anzalone is entering his 3rd season in New Orleans. He tallied 59 total tackles a year ago with 3 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss and 6 hits on the quarterback.  He appeared in just 4 games during his rookie season after getting hurt and saw his draft stock dip due to injuries at Florida.

Robertson’s main contributions come on special teams but is also valued for the depth he provides at the LB position.

We will continue to monitor the progress of both during the week as the Saints get ready to host the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football to open the 2019 season.
