Drew Brees remains on track to resume his job as the Saints starting quarterback. For a 2nd straight day he was limited at practice, which is a good sign there has not been any setbacks in his recovery from thumb surgery. He looked sharp in the media’s viewing portion of practice. The splint on his thumb did not affect his release and was able to deliver with good velocity and accuracy.
“He’s our general,” said linebacker Demario Davis. “So, of course any time you have your general, it moves your team in a positive direction.”
Speaking of positive directions, running back Alvin Kamara was upgraded to limited status while cornerback Eli Apple went through the session a full-go. Kamara was dealing with an ankle/knee injury but was not wearing any type of brace or sleeve on Thursday. And, after seeing Apple go down late in the game against the Bears, it’s a blessing his knee injury was nothing serious.
Wide Receiver Tre'Quan Smith (ankle), Tight End Jared Cook (ankle), Cornerback Patrick Robinson (hamstring) and Safety J.T. Gray (ankle) did not practice.
