LISTEN: Sean Payton has no intent to rest Saints starters

The final week of the 2019 regular season sends the 12-3 Saints to Carolina on Sunday for one last NFC South showdown at high noon. The 5-10 Panthers season plummeted after a decent start as they’ve lost 7 in a row and have made changes at head coach and quarterback.

Will Coach Sean Payton consider resting some of the Saints starters ahead of their upcoming playoff run?

“No, absolutely not,” Payton replied quickly. “We’re still playing for one, two, or three seed. We’re still playing for all of those things in front of us.”

The NFC South champion Saints have a spot in the postseason already locked up, but have a chance to earn a first round bye if some other things happen. They are the three seed currently, and need the 49ers and/or the Packers to lose/tie for a chance at obtaining a higher seed. But, Payton and his players remain committed to the mantra of controlling what they can control, not worrying about who needs to lose for the Saints to benefit.
