Drew Brees and the Saints offense will be without one of its reliable targets in the NFC Championship. ESPN’s Katherine Terrell was first to report that tight end Benjamin Watson will be out for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson won't play this week against the Rams, according to a source. Watson missed two practices due to appendicitis, and while he's been able to avoid surgery so far, the team decided he'll be inactive this week. https://t.co/QO6AUnT2O3

Watson had one of his best games this season in week 9 against LA, catching 3 passes for 62 yards with a touchdown. The 38-year-old was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday but is not expected to require surgery.  He announced that he was retiring at the conclusion of this season, so hopefully will be available if the Saints advance to the Super Bowl.
