Saints head coach Sean Payton is a master of maximizing a player’s talent and has another versatile weapon to work with after the team signed Ty Montgomery. The Packers 2015 3rd round pick was drafted as a wide receiver, but ended up making the move over to running back his 2nd season in the NFL.
Montgomery initially wore the No. 88 in Green Bay and didn’t change after getting carries between the tackles. He would carry the number with him to his next 2 stops, the Ravens and Jets, and will continue to wear it in New Orleans.
“One thing I’ve noticed is they’ve got no problem spreading the ball around. It’s not a selfish offense, it doesn’t run through one person,” Montgomery said. “I can remember a couple of years ago, you couldn’t really tell who was the starter between Mark (Ingram) and Alvin (Kamara). I’m really excited that everyone in the Saints offense touches the ball.
Montgomery is also excited to be back in the South. He was born in Mississippi, played high school football in Texas, and also has family in Tennessee, Alabama and Louisiana. Montgomery said that has only been to New Orleans once, but sound like he is going to fit in just fine.
“I love to eat and love good music, so I’ve been hearing the Big Easy it where I want to be. I love Jazz, love Blues, love seafood, love a nice glass of wine, I drink beer every now and then and I love to fish. So, I’m in the right spot from what I’ve been told.”
