It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but the New Orleans Saints extended their win streak with a 13-6 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“I don’t care if you win 3-2,” WWL NFL analyst Mike Detillier said. “Do you get extra for style points in the NFL? No. We’ve been saying this since Drew Brees got hurt: it’s about finding different ways to win. So enjoy the win!”
The Saints are now 5-1 and 4-0 after the Drew Brees injury, with all four wins by one possession. The Saints have won with defense, with special teams, and with offense; and Detillier had high praise for the head coach.
“One of things getting kind of hidden in all this is how great of a coaching job Sean Payton has done,” Detillier pointed out. “He’s done a fantastic job, not only from the Xs and Os part but also from the emotional part, with your team leader getting knocked out for some time. That just goes to show the brilliance of Sean Payton.”
Detillier did not stop with Payton. He also credited the work of general manager Mickey Loomis and the rest of the front office for building a team that complements Drew Brees and sets the Saints up for success when Brees isn’t around.
“The Saints front office knows Drew won’t be here forever,” Detillier explained. “They’ve done an excellent job at crafting the roster to both win now and prepare for the future when No. 9 isn’t your quarterback.”
