Spotting an alligator in certain parts of Texas isn’t that rare. Still, one hunter was left stunned recently after he caught a massive alligator on a deer lease he has hunted at countless times. Now, the hunter is showing off the massive 13 foot alligator he caught on the first day of alligator hunting season.
Shane Lee of Tarkington recently went on a hunting trip with his nephew Lance Stephens and friend Jerid Ellis that ended with quite the haul. The group of hunters were on a duck lease in Tarkington, which is near Cleveland and west of Beaumont, when they spotted something they had never seen before. “We are out there in that water all the time duck hunting and we never knew that alligator was even in there. We didn't know there was one that big in there. We had never seen him before,” Lee said of the massive gator.
Using a dead raccoon attached to a cane pool on a tree, the group was able to catch the alligator on the first official day of hunting season. According to My San Antonio, the alligator measured 13-feet, 4.25-inches, as Lee plans to mount the head and eat whatever meat can be salvaged. Not a bad way to kick off alligator hunting season.
