Former LSU star Angel Reese is a WNBA All-Star as a rookie. Reese is averaging 13 points a game and close to 12 rebounds a contest. She leads the WNBA in rebounds per game.
Reese got emotional about the honor following the Chicago Sky’s 85-77 win over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday.
“So many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate and I wouldn’t be the player that I was in college, but I trusted the process and I believed,” Reese said.
Reese had 61 double-doubles during her two years at LSU and she’s continued that type or production in the pros.
Reese has 11 straight double-doubles, which is a record for a single season and she’s one away from tying Candace Parker’s WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles, which is twelve. Parker achieved that feat over the course of the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Another potential record is offensive rebounds in a season. Reese has 86 and is on pace to break Yolanda Griffith’s record for most offensive rebounds in a single season.
Reese was fifth in the WNBA All-Star fan voting with 381,518 votes. Caitlin Clark was number one with 700,735 votes.
It’s only the eighth time that two rookies will be in the WNBA All-Star game.
The WNBA All-Star game is July 20th in Phoenix, Arizona.
