Fists fly at Lions-Steelers preseason game as ugly brawl erupts

A caller on 97.1 The Ticket, an Audacy Sports affiliate in Detroit, brought up an interesting question regarding whether or not fans should be quick to pull out their cell phones at a ball game in big situations as opposed to living in the moment (video above). But that question doesn't apply to what we saw on Saturday night's NFL preseason game between the Detroit Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

That's because the action wasn't on the field. It was up in the stands, and what began as a heated verbal exchange between a female fan and some surrounding fans quickly erupted into a nasty, all-out brawl. A fellow fan in attendance captured it on video, and subsequent social media posts (which may or may not be from the person who filmed the fight) have over four million views.

Other fans intervened but not before some big blows were exchanged and at least one resulted in a devastating punch that appeared to knock out the fan in the black hat. No further information regarding the fight has been released at this point.

Similarly, a violent fight involving a whole lot of punches and some spilled food occurred during last week's preseason matchup between the Rams and Chargers at SoFi Stadium.

Bringing fans back to stadiums in a safe manner is difficult enough as is considering the raging Delta variant of COVID-19. Fights like these make the situation all the more problematic.
