'A lot of drill work' pays dividends for LSU's Myles Brennan in win against Vanderbilt

Following LSU's 41-7 win at Vanderbilt, Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron said quarterback Myles Brennan made a noticeable improvement from the week before.

"I thought Myles played very well," Orgeron said. "Obviously that interception was not a good decision. There was two or three times he could have made better decisions. But I'll tell you he threw some good balls."

Brennan completed 23-of-37 passes for 337 yards and four touchdowns against just one interception. The sophomore's numbers weren't that much from what he posted in the Week 1 loss to Mississippi State, but Orgeron said the quarterback did a better job of playing at the LSU standard of the performance.

"Tonight he stepped up in the pocket," Orgeron said. "He didn't try to scramble to the right like he did in the first game. He stepped up in the pocket, He was patient, made some big time throws in the pocket, but again it's still some things he's got to improve on."

Brennan stepping up in the pocket was something he focused on this week.

"A lot of drill work," Brennan said. "Stepping up in the pocket, you know, Coach Callaway, you know, we drilled every single day. Different drills to step up in the pocket, feel the rush and you know still deliver a good ball.

"And it wasn't perfect by any means and we're going to continue to get better but I definitely saw improvement."

Brennan said he and Tigers are focused on improving more.

"You know tonight, we went out and we performed the way that we know how to perform," Brennan said. "Like I said, we still have a lot a lot of room to improve and it wasn't perfect."
