The LSU Tigers Baseball Team snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on Friday night, giving up five runs in the final two innings to fall to Alabama 8-7.
LSU held a 7-3 lead going into the bottom of the eight inning. In the bottom of the eight, Alabama centerfielder T. J. McCants narrowed the lead to 7-5 with a two-run home run. Later in the inning, third baseman Gage Miller drove in a run with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the ninth, LSU gave the Crimson Tide the victory via an error. Tigers catcher Alex Milazzo threw the ball into right field while trying to make a play on batter-runner William Hamiter, allowing Alabama to score the two runs they needed to win.
Tigers reliever Griffin Herring was credited with his first loss of the year (3-1) after giving up two unearned runs on one hit in one-and-two-thirds innings pitched. He struck out four batters and walked two.
Tigers starter Gage Jump received no decision after going five-and-two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Alabama reliever Coulson Buchanan picked up his second win of the year (2-1) after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
LSU and Alabama will meet in Game 2 of the weekend series at 3 p.m. in Tuscaloosa. That game will be broadcast on WWL.
