A key ingredient to LSU’s run to a women’s basketball national title a year ago is no longer with the team.

Coach Kim Mulkey confirmed Sunday night that Kateri Poole had been cut from the squad, and in the wake of her dismissal, the Tigers’ biggest star lent her support to her now-former teammate.

“Forever my dawg! You know I love you & 10 behind you,” Angel Reese wrote in Instagram, referencing the fact that she wears #10 on the court.

Both Reese and Poole had been absent from the bench in recent weeks, but while Reese has since made her return to the Purple and Gold, that apparently won’t be the case for Poole.

Interestingly, it was a phone call from Poole that helped cement Reese’s decision to transfer to LSU from Maryland.

Poole was a tenacious defender in the starting lineup for LSU during last year’s NCAA national championship tournament. She averaged 4.5 points and 2.4 assists last season, but her numbers had steeply fallen off this year, as had her playing time.

She played just five minutes in her last appearance for LSU, a 1-point, 1-assist contribution against Southeastern Louisiana on November 15.
