LSU bowl practice is underway as the Tigers begin preparations to play Wisconsin in the Reliaquest Bowl on New Year’s Day. Media were not present for the first practice, but LSU sent out a highlight video and star wide receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas are at practice.
Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels was not seen and he’s yet to say if he’ll play against the Badgers. There’s also no guarantee Nabers and Thomas will play, but Nabers has said he wants to break the school record for receiving yards. Nabers is 21 yards away from breaking Josh Reed’s career record of 3,001 receiving yards at LSU.
Many made linebacker Tylen Singleton signs with LSU
The early signing period for the 2024 recruiting class is December 20th to the 22nd, but one of those recruits has already signed. Many linebacker Tylen Singleton signed with the Tigers Tuesday night as he will enroll at LSU early and be on campus on January.
Many is a powerhouse team in central Louisiana and the folks in the Sabine Parish town say they are Many made. Singleton won two-state championships with the Tigers and was the 2020 Class 2A Championship game MVP his freshman season.
He’s six-foot-two, 210-pounds and 247 sports ranks him as the fifth best player in the state of Louisiana and the 14th best linebacker in the country.
Moffitt headed for A&M
First-year Texas A&M Coach Mike Elko has made a major hire to be the Aggies strength and conditioning coach. It’s LSU’s longtime strength coach Tommy Moffit who spent 22 years at LSU helping the Tigers win three national championships. Moffit was not retained when Brian Kelly was hired.
Last month, I spoke with former LSU QB Matt Mauck after the 2003 national championship team was honored during halftime of the Florida game. Mauck credited Moffitt as the person responsible for the culture change at LSU as he arrived when Nick Saban did.
Moffitt worked at Tennessee for four seasons from 1994 to 97, the Peyton Manning years. He was also at Miami in 1998 and 1999. He’s credited with laying the groundwork for the Hurricanes 2001 national title.
Serious allegations levied at LSU Running Backs coach Frank Wilson
Former LSU associate athletic director Sharon Lewis’ federal lawsuit against the university is underway in a federal courtroom in Baton Rouge, Lewis is seeking 50-million dollars from LSU, claiming athletic department officials created a hostile work environment against her after she reported sexual misconduct allegations involving former LSU Coach Les Miles and current LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson.
The first person called to testify was Nikole Jessie, a former student worker in the LSU recruiting office. She alleged Wilson kissed her “very hard on the lips” in 2013 and tried to give her unwanted gifts. She also claims there were several after-hours phone calls where she was asked to dinner.
Tiger Rag Editor Todd Horne is covering the trial, and he expects several women will take the stand accusing Wilson of inappropriate behavior.
Wilson left LSU to be the head coach at UTSA. He was also the head coach at McNeese State in 2020 and 2021.
When Kelly was hired in December of 2021, his first coaching assistant hire was Wilson.
In 2022, these allegations against Wilson became public, but Kelly said they were unfounded.
Miles is not expected to testify as attempts to subpoena him with court papers were unsuccessful as officials have not been able to locate him.
