Starting quarterback Myles Brennan is out for LSU’s scheduled game against Alabama this weekend and Tigers head coach Ed Oregon said Monday that other starters might not be available either due to COVID-19 contact tracing.
Brennan hasn’t played since suffering a lower body injury in LSU’s Week 3 loss to Missouri and Orgeron said the team’s medical staff is discussing whether or not Brennan will be available for the remainder of the season.
“There’s some discussion of that,” Orgeron said. “What’s best for Myles, the doctor’s and them are talking to see what’s best for Myles and were’ going to do what’s best for him. Whether it’s getting it fixed getting it operated now or wait. I think we are still discussing that.”
Orgeron also said he couldn’t comment on the availability of LSU’s freshmen quarterbacks TJ Finley and Max Johnson for Saturday’s game as well.
“We have to see what happens,” he said. “Like I said, it’s a very fluid situation but I will tell you that we are very thin at that position.”
Orgeron said some players tested positive for COVID-19 and that others are currently quarantined due to contact tracing. He said starters were affected by the quarantine but declined to say how many and added that the team should have a better idea of who’s available on Wednesday.
“I’ll let the doctors and Scott Woodward handle all that stuff,” he said. “Those things, those numbers and stuff are very fluid right now and right now we are planning to play Alabama.”
