Following LSU’s 55-17 loss to No. 1 Alabama Saturday night, CBS Sports college football writer Barrett Sallee wrote that it’s time for the Tigers to move on from defensive coordinator Bo Pelini.

Pelini was brought in to replace former defensive coordinator Dave Aranda who left Baton Rouge after LSU’s national championship season to become the head coach at Baylor. Under Pelini, LSU has had historically bad showings defensively including giving up a season-high 55 points to the Tide Saturday.

“It's long past time for Orgeron to fire defensive coordinator Bo Pelini,” Sallee wrote following the game. “Saturday night's performance is just the latest instance of his defense getting torched. No, it's not a slight to Alabama's offense. Everybody knows that it's insanely good. But why on Earth would Pelini stay in man coverage after his secondary continued to get burned like overdone Louisiana gator tail?”

Alabama authored several big plays during the first half Saturday’s win as quarterback Mac Jones threw four touchdowns passes in the first half including two to Louisiana native Devonta Smith that went for 65 and a 61 yards.

A clip of Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron showing his frustration with the play of his defense went viral.

But Orgeron reiterated after the loss that he would wait until the end of the season to evaluate his coaching staff.
