Former LSU All-American pitcher Paul Skenes has been in the Major Leagues for only eight weeks and he's already an MLB All-Star. Skenes was named to the National League All-Star team despite only having ten career starts in bigs.
Skenes' becomes the first player to be selected number one overall in the MLB draft and make the All-Star team the following season. He's 5-0 on the year with a 2.12 ERA and has 78 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched.
Skenes has at least seven strikeouts in nine of his first ten starts, which is a Major League Record.
He pitched last Friday and got the win over the Mets as he pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, gave up two earned runs, walked two and struck out eight.
Skenes had one of the most dominating seasons ever seen in college baseball last year as he helped the LSU Tigers win a seventh national championship.
The D1 Baseball National Player of the Year was 13-2 with a 1.69 ERA and set an SEC record 209 strikeouts.
He looked Major League ready last year as he threw 100-mile per hour plus fastballs past SEC hitters. But the fact he’s already dominating Major League hitters after just a couple of months with the Pirates is astonishing.
There are some already making the argument that he’s the best pitcher in the Major Leagues right now.
The 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star game will take place on July 16th at Glove Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
