Governor John Bel Edwards is weighing into the controversy surrounding a hit that left LSU's starting quarterback in the concussion protocol and possibly impacted the outcome of Saturday night's game against Alabama.

That fourth-quarter hit by Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner knocked LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels out of the game. The Tigers didn't not score a touchdown after that, falling to the Crimson Tide 42-28. Game officials reviewed the play for targeting, but they deemed that the hit was legal.

While the play drew a roughing-the-passer call, Governor Edwards took issue with the lack of a targeting call. He posted a protest on his official Facebook page.

"How in the world was this not targeting?" Edwards asked, sharing a post with a still image of Turner's hit on Daniels.

Daniels, a candidate for the Heisman Trophy, completed 15 of 24 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 163 yards and another touchdown before he was injured.

LSU plays Florida Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. You can listen to that game on WWL.
