Heading into LSU’s Pro Day, Ja’Marr Chase was already consider by many draft experts to be the top receiver in this year’s class.

And Chase reinforced those beliefs with his eye-popping performance Wednesday which included a 4.38 40-yard dash and a 41-inch vertical.

Both of those numbers even surprised Chase.

“I was going for 4.4 but last night I was feeling good about my start,” he said. “I felt like I could’ve gotten a 4.3 this morning. I did, so that was what I really was going for.

He added that in training he was only reaching 39 inches on his vertical jump and was glad to hit 41 which was his goal.

Chase also posted an 11-foot broad jump, demonstrating the athleticism that helped him set LSU records in 2019, with 1,780 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns.

Much of the talk surrounding his performance Wednesday was about the potential of Chase reuniting with the quarterback who helped him set those records, Joe Burrow. Burrow was the top overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

That franchise is in need of a receiver and Chase said he’s heard from Cincinnati a few times during the draft process.

“I wouldn’t mind going back with Joe,” Chase said. “If we got back together, we ain’t trying to do nothing but get back our chemistry and have some more fun.”

Chase added that he still expects to have to work hard even with his old quarterback.

“I think I would have an advantage if I was to play with him only because we played couple years but we’d still have to get that groove back, feel for it again,” he said. “It’s not just gonna be there when we throw again. So we’d have to build that chemistry back up and work hard again.”
