Former LSU star Joe Burrow slated to make return to field for Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will play in the team's Week 3 preseason game, marking the first time he's played in a game since tearing his ACL last November.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told the collective media that Burrow will get "a limited number of snaps" when the Bengals host the Miami Dolphins Sunday afternoon to wrap up their preseason slate. The hope is that it will help the 24-year-old shake off any rust before his second NFL season.

Burrow -- the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft -- impressed in his rookie season, despite porous offensive line play in front of him. While Justin Hebert ultimately edged out Justin Jefferson to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year, Burrow may very well have won the award if he stayed healthy. In 10 starts, Burrow tossed 13 touchdowns to five interceptions, while racking up 2,688 passing yards.

Even with a strong rookie season from Burrow, the Bengals went just 2-7-1 in games that he started. The Bengals hope that the offseason additions of offensive tackle Reily Reiff and edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, among others, will help to improve the team around their second-year quarterback. Burrow will also be reunited with former LSU teammate Ja'Marr Chase, who caught 84 passes for 1,780 yards and 22 touchdowns from Burrow in 2019, helping the Tigers to win the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Burrow checked in at No. 12 on our countdown of the top 32 quarterbacks for 2021.
