LSU baseball has hired its recruiting coordinator in the form of Dallas Baptist University's Dan Fitzgerald, according to a report from D1baseball.

Fitzgerald will also serve as associate head coach, both roles he'd held for the past nine seasons with Dallas Baptist. Fitzgerald helped lead the Patriots to a record of 41-18 in the 2021 season and a victory in the Forth Worth Regional before his team fell in three games to Virginia in the Super Regionals.

Fitzgerald's recruiting resume is lengthy, including seven All-Americans -- including three as freshmen -- since 2018.

Fitzgerald previously served as the head coach of Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa from 2008-'12. Fitzgerald has also coached at the University of Iowa, Northern Iowa Community College and Flagler College.

Johnson made the first addition to his coaching staff on Tuesday with the hire of former Arizona State pitching coach Jason Kelly.

The move sets the Tigers in position to move forward with their coaching staff in place, though Johnson said he still plans to add a volunteer coach in some capacity. LSU hired the former Arizona head coach last month to replace Paul Mainieri, who retired after 15 years in Baton Rouge following the 2021 season.
