When LSU rehired Corey Raymond as its Secondary Coach, the goal was for him to bring back the Defensive Backs University reputation. Raymond has been back at LSU less than a year and the cornerback position already looks better, even with the Tigers losing two-year starter Zy Alexander to the NFL.

On paper, it appears LSU is better at the cornerback position thanks to the addition of two talented corners out of the transfer portal and five-star recruit DJ Pickett, one of the top corners coming out of high school.

The two transfer portal additions are Mansoor Delane from Virginia Tech and Ja’Keem Jackson from Florida.

Delane is a likely starter next season. He’s been starting at Virgina Tech since 2022 and he’s coming off a big season that resulted in him receiving third team All ACC honors.

In 2024, Delane had 54 tackles, 11 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and four interceptions.

Jackson is the other transfer portal addition at cornerback. When Raymond was at Florida, he recruited Jackson to Gainesville. Jackson was set to see significant playing time this season and started the first two games until an ankle injury sidelined him for the season.

Jackson was a four-star recruit coming out of Osceola High School in Florida and On3.com had him ranked as one of the top cornerbacks in the country.

Jackson and Delane join a cornerback room that includes Ashton Stamps, who will be a three-year starter next year. PJ Woodland who got valuable time as a freshman and Aidan Anding, Louisiana’s top cornerback in the Class of 2024 from Ruston High School. And don’t forget about Pickett.

LSU has the cornerback position solidified, now they got to work on safety.

One of the Tigers top targets, Jacksonville State safety Zechariah Poyser, committed to Miami on Tuesday.
