Starting center Braelin Moore went down with an ankle injury on the first play from scrimmage against Louisiana Tech last Saturday night. Tight end Trey’Dez Green left in the fourth quarter with a knee injury.

There was a concern that Moore’s injury would be a high ankle sprain, but Coach Brian Kelly says that is not the case.

“We’ll get him out there tomorrow (Tuesday), we’ll see how he feels, he felt better today, so I think we will list him as questionable, and that could change to probable as we go through the week, we’ll see how he progresses,” Kelly said.

Kelly said an MRI on Green’s injured knee showed a sprained MCL, and he’s also questionable for Saturday’s SEC opener against Florida.

If Moore can’t go, last year’s starting center DJ Chester, filled in for Moore in the 23-7 victory over Louisiana Tech.

“To have a guy like him is invaluable. He didn’t take a ton of snaps the last couple of weeks at center. We had him out at left tackle, he’s played guard, he’s so valuable, and he went in there and did a heck of a job,” Kelly said.

If Green can’t go on Saturday, it will mean more snaps at tight end for Bauer Sharp, who has six catches on the year. Texas A&M transfer
Donovan Green is more of a blocking tight end, but two years ago, he caught 22 passes.

Following Saturday night’s game, Kelly was visibly upset with his team’s performance and made his unhappiness known.

The coach had a softer tone on Monday. He said the team did a lot of good things, nearly shutting out Louisiana Tech and converting 9-of-16 on third down.

But he said focus was not great for everyone.

“Our traits were a little off, and when our traits are off a little bit, I go back to looking at, did we prepare as well in that sense, and we are going to talk about it,” Kelly said.

LSU will host Florida on Saturday night in the SEC opener at 6:30. The third-ranked Tigers are 9.5-point favorites.
