When the transfer portal opened on January 2nd, no one predicted that Landen Clark would be the first quarterback that Lane Kiffin would sign out of the transfer portal. The dual-threat QB visited LSU this past week after a standout red-shirt freshman season at Elon College, an FCS school in North Carolina.
Clark threw for 2,321 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions for the Phoenix, who finished 6-6 overall this past season, including a 4-4 record in the Colonial Athletic Association. Clark also rushed for 614 yards and had a school-record 11 touchdowns as he was named the CAA Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The FCS All-American was also a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, which goes to the top freshmen in FCS football.
Clark also visited Michigan. Kentucky and James Madison were also finalists.
WWL’s Mike Detillier says Clark has a real quick set-up and delivery. Accurate downfield passer, who can buy time on the move with his foot speed and throws on balance.
We all saw what Kiffin did with Trinidad Chambliss, a quarterback from the Division II level. Clark certainly has a skill set that Kiffin can develop to play on the Power 4 level.
Clark is not LSU's likely starter in 2026. LSU continues to pursue former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt. Leavitt visited Miami this past weekend. Before Leavitt left Knoxville and his visit with Tennessee, Kiffin flew to Knoxville to meet with Leavitt again.
LSU also had a visit this past weekend from Husan Longstreet from USC. Longstreet is a former 5-star recruit from California.
He got a chance to play in blowouts last season and was 13 of 15 for 103 yards and one touchdown.
Oregon is also reportedly interested in Longstreet.
