Rome wasn’t built in a day and filling up a quarterback room also takes a few days. LSU started last weekend with zero scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, but by Wednesday morning they had three signal callers with strong credentials.
The first guy to enter the QB room was Landen Clark, the FCS All-American from Elon, who committed on Sunday.
On Monday morning, the Tigers signed their likely starting quarterback for 2026, Sam Leavitt, who is transferring in from Arizona State.
LSU Coach Lane Kiffin put the finishing touches on a solid quarterback room by signing former five-star recruit Husan Longstreet.
“Big pick up for Lane Kiffin to solidify his quarterback room,” said WWL Radio’s Mike Detillier.
Detillier calls Longstreet a playmaker, who is an accurate downfield passer and makes plays on the move with both his arm and as a runner.
Longstreet put up huge numbers in high school in California, throwing for 8,000 yards and 83 touchdowns. He saw limited action during his redshirt season at USC.
Detillier says Longstreet has a chance to be LSU’s starting quarterback in 2027, but could see the field earlier if Leavitt is slow to recover from a foot surgery that ended his 2025 season prematurely.
Despite Leavitt’s injury concerns, LSU appears to be in good shape at the quarterback position heading into the 2026 season. So how did Kiffin get three quarterbacks to sign that are all looking for a chance to start?
Detilllier says all Kiffin has to do is point to his track record for developing quarterbacks.
“Look what he did for Matt Corral at Ole Miss, look what he did for Jaxson Dart, he left USC goes to Ole Miss, he was a first-round pick in last April’s draft, and then look at the development of Trinidad Chambliss.”
When Kiffin was hired as LSU’s head coach, he could not wait for the transfer portal window to open, now he can’t wait for spring football, so he can start developing his new quarterbacks.
