LSU out of AP Top 25 after loss to Missouri

LSU is out of the AP Top 25 after its 45-41 loss to Missouri Saturday. The Tigers became the first defending national champion to fall out of the rankings since 2011.

The Tigers (1-2) were previously No. 17  in the rankings after a 41-7 win against Vanderbilt.

LSU began the season at No. 6 after winning a national championship in January. The Tigers lost several key players from it's 15-0 team including quarterback Joe Burrow, top receivers Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase along with leading rusher Clyde Edwards-Helaire as well as key defensive starters Patrick Queen, Grant Delpit and Kristian Fulton.

LSU also switched defensive schemes under first-year coordinator Bo Pelini and the Tigers have struggled at times this season limiting opponents.

The SEC currently has six teams ranked in the Top 25 including LSU’s opponent this weekend, the Florida Gators who are No. 10 after a loss to No. 11 Texas A&M.

Including this weekend’s game at Florida, the Tigers still have four games against ranked opponents.

With LSU out of the polls, No. 21 Louisiana-Lafayette is the state’s only ranked team.
