LSU football is getting star QB Jayden Daniels back for another year, but that'll come at the expense of the QB of the future, it appears.
Redshirt freshman Walker Howard will enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to reports.
The decision comes after a freshman season in Baton Rouge where Howard saw action in just two games. He got in the game during a blowout of Southern, and played a majority of the 4th quarter of a Citrus Bowl blowout of Purdue.
If Howard does enter the portal, his LSU career will end with a line of 2-for-4 for 7 yards, a disappointing end for a highly touted, 4-star recruit out of Lafayette. Howard was one of the biggest pieces of a 2022 recruiting class that marked Brian Kelly's first year at the helm of the Tigers. LSU went on to surprise many with an SEC West title.
For the Tigers, it's a loss of depth, but not something that will be particularly costly in the foreseeable future. Howard would've been third in a crowded QB room that will include Daniels and also talented backup Garrett Nussmeier, who saw action in 7 games this past season, completing 52-84 passes for 800 yards, 5 TDs and 4 interceptions.
Daniels' return is the most notable, with the dual-threat quarterback primed to continue a stellar run for the Tigers. His first year in Baton Rouge was impressive, becoming just one of two college players this past season to throw for over 2,000 yards and rush for over 800.
LSU will also be looking to replace a pair of talented WRs, with sophomore Jack Bech transferring to TCU and star junior Kayshon Boutte opting to enter the NFL draft.
