The Green Wave dropped six spots after falling 14-26 against SMU.
Tulane is now ranked #23.
In the top five; Michigan, Washington and Texas moved up to the top spots behind wins in their conference title games.
Unlike the playoff standings, the AP writers kept Florida State at number four. Alabama is fifth after knocking off former number one Georgia in the SEC Championship.
The voters in the playoff rankings have Bama in fourth.
