For two seasons at LSU, Angel Reese was known by the nickname "Bayou Barbie." For obvious reasons that nickname will no longer work in Chicago as a member of the Sky.
The former Tigers standout was picked No. 7 overall in this weeks WNBA draft and took to social media to request input on a nickname change.
"I need a new name now that I'm in Chicago," Reese posted, "lol something cute that is catchy like Bayou Barbie."
It didn't take long to settle on a new name, announcing on TikTok that she'd be going with "Chi Barbie."
"I'm the Chi Barbie, I am the Baltimore Barbie and I am always going to be the Bayou Barbie," Reese said.
The former LSU forward adopted her bayou nickname during her first season at LSU, which saw her star rise quickly as she set a new NCAA record for double-doubles in a season (34) while leading the Tigers to the program's first national title. She helped lead another charge to the Elite Eight this past season but a repeat run was thwarted by Iowa and star Caitlin Clark, who went No. 1 overall to the Indiana Fever in the same draft.
The Sky has a preseason game in Minnesota on May 4, and opens up its regular season against the New York Liberty on May 23. One of the biggest draws of this WNBA season will be the continued rivalry between Reese and Clark. The Sky and Fever match up four times this season, with the first showdown coming on June 1 in Indy.
