Terrace Marshall tallied the fourth most yards by any LSU receiver in a single game Saturday, racking up 235 on 11 catches.
His final grab put LSU on the Missouri 1-yard line gave the Tigers four chances to finish the 75-yard drive and escape Missouri with a victory.
However, Missouri’s defense held to seal a 45-41 win against LSU (1-2).
“I was confident that my team would go punch it but unfortunately we weren’t able to get the job done today,” Marshall said.
Missouri (1-2) stopped two Tyrion Davis-Price runs and broke up two passes intended for Marshall and forced a turnover on downs with 16 seconds to play.
Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron said he thought LSU’s offense played well with the exception of that final sequence.
“We’ve got look at the scheme,” he said. “They were pinching everybody and knocking our line back. I need to see it on tape but we got to get it in.
“And then the two passes, they did a good job of defending it but we ought to be able to run the football. We’re LSU we should score from the 1-yard line.”
LSU quarterback Myles Brennan who finished Saturday’s loss with 430 yards passing and four touchdowns said the Tigers need to execute better. He added the he expects this team to learn from its mistakes and be better moving forward.
“You only get stronger through adversity and we’re going through some pretty adverse situations right now and it’s only going to make us stronger,” Brennan said. “And we’re going to fight, we’re going to keep fighting week-to-week and we’re going to get into the meeting room and the film room and fix the things we need to fix. And we’re going to stick together as a team and that’s how it’s going to go.”
