LSU baseball's hot streak continues with a win over the top-ranked team in the nation.
Leftfielder Josh Pearson's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning helped the Tigers erase a 3-2 deficit and pushed them to a 6-4 win over Texas A&M at Alex Box Stadium Friday night, giving LSU Game 1 of the three-game weekend series. Game 2 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Aggies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to solo home runs by centerfielder Jace LaViolette, who opened the scoring in the first inning, and shortstop Ali Camarillo, who hit his bomb in the second inning.
The Tigers tied the game in the third inning as a result of a throwing error by A&M third baseman Gavin Grahovac, allowing two Tigers to cross the plate.
A&M regained the lead in the fourth inning when Camarillo launched another moonshot into the Alex Box Stadium stands.
The Aggies held that lead until LSU's sixth-inning rally, in which the Tigers scored four runs to give themselves a lead they would not relinquish. After Pearson's double put LSU on top, the Tigers scored two more runs when designated hitter Hayden Travinsky recorded a sacrifice fly and second baseman Steven Milam hit an RBI single.
A&M plated another run in the eight inning when designated hitter Hayden Schott hit an RBI single, but the Aggies could not overcome the Tigers' momentum.
LSU pitcher Fidel Ulloa recorded his first win at LSU. In one-and-a-third innings of relief, Ulloa (1-1) allowed no runs or walks, allowed one hit, and struck out one batter. LSU starter Gage Jump pitched five-and-a-third innings, allowing three runs on six hits with four strikouts and no walks.
Texas A&M starter Ryan Prager recorded his first loss of the season. Prager (8-1) gave up four runs--two of them earned--on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work.
