In the first matchup with Texas A&M, the Tigers beat the Aggies at their own game, controlling the offensive glass in a 68-53 win on January 6th. LSU had 18 second chance points that day, while the Aggies had just 3.

In the rematch on Saturday at the Maravich Center, Texas A&M crushed LSU on the offensive glass 21-6. The Aggies outscored LSU on second chance points by a staggering 27-0 on their way to a 73-69 victory.

“Credit to them for their relentless effort on the offensive glass…they were able to turn some of those offensive rebounds into easy scores,” said LSU Coach Matt McMahon.

The other factor in LSU’s loss was Texas A&M’s leading scorer Wade Taylor, who averages 20 points a game. Taylor didn’t score in the first half after getting into early foul trouble, but he exploded for 19 points in the 2nd half.

Taylor made a huge three pointer on an inbounds play with just 2:56 left put the Aggies up for good after seven lead changes.

LSU had five players in double figures led by Jordan Wright who had 15 points and ten rebounds.

The Tigers could not make a bucket down the stretch as they went 1-for-8 from the field in the final few minutes of the game.

The loss drops LSU’s record to 11-7 overall, 3-2 in the SEC.

The Tigers went 1-1 at home this week and now they’ll play two straight on the road. They’ll be at Georgia on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are also 3-2 in league play, with a nice victory against South Carolina and losses to a pair of ranked teams, Kentucky and Tennessee.

LSU’s road trip ends Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, which has been a house of horrors for LSU.

Tough loss for LSU, now let’s see if they can at least split on the road to keep a winning record in conference play.
