LSU didn't waste its second life on the Tigers' first drive of the game, with Max Johnson finding a wide-open Brian Thomas Jr. to take an early lead.

LSU got a stop, and it appeared their comeback drive was stuck in neutral. But after lining up to punt, Tigers coach Ed Orgeron called a timeout. When they returned it was for a fake punt-pass hauled in by Jack Mashburn for a first down to keep the drive rolling.
