Third ranked Texas overcame a 12-point third quarter deficit to beat 5th ranked LSU 65-58 on Sunday.

The loss dropped the Lady Tigers record to 25-2, 10-2 in the SEC.

Both losses were against top five teams on the road, South Carolina was the other loss, and there were common themes in both games.

“When we went to South Carolina and we come to Texas, good ball games, we had opportunities to possible steal a victory and we just didn’t get it done,” head coach Kim Mulkey said.

LSU failed to score 60 points in both contests.

LSU committed too many turnovers, 17 against South Carolina, 19 against Texas.

And LSU didn’t get much production from its bench. Just two bench points against the Gamecocks and five against Texas.

LSU once again relied heavily on its big three.

Aneesah Morrow continues to make her case for SEC Player of the Year as she had 15 points and 20 rebounds. Flau’Jae Johnson was a gametime decision because of an undisclosed injury, but she still scored 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting.

Mikaylah Williams had 18 points, but just 1-of-7 from 3-point range. Williams also struggled with her outside shot against South Carolina, she was 1-of-5 back on January 24th.

This loss might sting a little more, because LSU had a double-digit lead, but was outscored 21-to-9 in the fourth quarter in Austin.

After a great performance at home by the bench last Sunday against Tennessee, they didn’t get much support from the reserves against Texas.

Case in point Kailyn Gilbert. Gilbert was outstanding against 19th ranked Tennessee, scoring 23 points. But against Texas she had just three points.

LSU is back home on Thursday night to Georgia and then two tough games on the road. The Lady Tigers are at 8th ranked Kentucky on Sunday and next week they visit 21st ranked Alabama.
