Former LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri may soon be getting back to the dugout as he is expected to interview for the open Miami Hurricanes coaching job this week, according to insiders.

Kendall Rogers from D1Baseball shared the news on Twitter, noting that Mainieri’s 2021 retirement appears to be over.

Mainieri spent over a decade with the Tigers, coaching the team from 2007 to 2021, during which he won a national title in 2009 before announcing his retirement two years ago.

A return to coaching in Miami wouldn’t be a major surprise, as Mainieri attended Christopher Columbus High School in Miami before playing collegiate baseball at LSU.

Throughout his tenure as the coach of the Tigers, Mainieri was 641-283-3, winning several accolades along the way, which include six SEC tournament titles and four SEC regular-season titles.

Other heading coaching positions he’s held include at Notre Dame, the Air Force, and NAIA St. Thomas (Florida).
