LSU true freshman quarterback Max Johnson will likely to make his first start Saturday when the Tigers head to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators.
“It looks like it’s going to be Max,” Orgeron said. “We haven’t made the final decision yet. Max has been practicing with the first team and TJ (Finley)’s getting the second set of reps. It could go either way, but it looks like it’s going to be Max. But we have not made the final decision. We are going to tell them tomorrow.
If Johnson indeed starts Saturday he’ll do so without LSU’s leading receiver Arik Gilbert, who informed Ed Orgeron this week that he was opting out of the Tigers’ remaining games.
Orgeron said he expects true freshman Kole Taylor and sophomore Nick Storz to step into Gilberts role this week.
“(Taylor’s) a big, tall, athletic tight end. Needs to grow into his body, get a little bit more physical but he has since he’s been here,” Oregon said, “Again he’s only a freshman and we got Nick Storz. Nick’s a big man, we are going to play him. A guy we got from baseball. We expect him to play. I’m excited about it. He’s excited about it. I can’t wait to see those two guys play.”
Orgeron also said he’s expecting another big performance from freshman receiver Kayshon Boutte who is coming off a career-high eight catches for 111 yards in LSU’s loss to Alabama.
