ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports Bulldogs starting quarterback Kamario Taylor continues to be bothered by a foot injury suffered in the October 3 loss to Alabama. Taylor’s status for Saturday’s game against 22nd-ranked LSU remains uncertain.

Mississippi State coach Jeff Lebby was asked Monday for an update on Taylor’s injury. His response: “Wednesday’s going to do all the talking.”

Wednesday is when the SEC releases its first availability report for Saturday’s games.

Taylor has been one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football this season. LSU coach Lane Kiffin called him a problem when asked about the Bulldogs’ quarterback Monday.

Taylor has completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,450 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions.

But after suffering the injury against Alabama, Taylor was not the same. He finished the 56-23 loss 19-of-34 for 258 yards, three touchdowns and a season-high two interceptions.

If Taylor cannot play, Mississippi State has two scholarship quarterbacks available: AJ Swann and Billy Puckett.

Swann previously played at LSU in 2024, appearing in two games as a backup to Garrett Nussmeier. Before transferring to LSU, Swann started 12 games over two seasons at Vanderbilt. Last season at Appalachian State, he started six games, throwing for nearly 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns, but also eight interceptions.

Puckett, a redshirt freshman from Madison, Mississippi, has yet to attempt a pass at the college level.

If Taylor is available, Saturday’s game will feature two of the SEC’s top passing offenses. LSU averages 311 passing yards per game, just ahead of Mississippi State’s 309.

Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
