Orgeron: 'I’ve been asked to give a bunch of shoes for Christmas'

Between the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and the roster turnover, it’s been a crazy season for LSU.

But perhaps the craziest thing happened late during Saturday’s upset of Florida.

“That shoe,” Ed Orgeron said Monday. “That shoe being thrown. It's fresh in my mind. I've never seen that. I've never seen that before in football.”

The shoe Orgeron was referring to was Kole Taylor’s which was ripped off and tossed by Florida’s Marco Wilson on third down late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game.

Wilson drew an unsportsmanlike conduct flag for throwing the shoe and the penalty allowed LSU’s game-winning drive to continue.

The shoe has become a talking point among the fans and national media and Orgeron said he certainly can attest to that.

“I’ve been asked to give a bunch of shoes for Christmas,” Orgeron said with a laugh. “I don't know why. My Christmas list has become shoes. I don't know why people want shoes from me.”

Orgeron said he was just glad his team got a chance to win.

“I was so proud of our football team, the leadership and the older guys that stuck around and stayed,” he said. “I’m so proud of the younger guys that stepped up, played very well. I’m proud of our coaching staff for blocking out the noise last week and had a tremendous week of preparation. Twenty six freshmen or sophomores played out of the 48 that played. Every point scored on that field was by a freshman or sophomore.”
