After a stellar college career, first at Air Force and then a national championship-winning campaign at LSU, pitcher Paul Skenes found himself taken #1 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB Draft.
Over the weekend, Skenes made his Double-A debut in the Pirates' farm system and the results were... underwhelming.
Skenes's stat line for the night: He gave up 3 hits and 4 earned runs and walked two batters in just 2/3 of an inning pitched. He did strike out the two batters he retired.
Maybe even more embarrassing on a personal level for the Pirates' new pitching ace was that his high-profile girlfriend, LSU gymnast and social media star Olivia Dunne, was apparently in attendance.
Dunne posted a video to her TikTok stream from the stands showing her support for her boyfriend.
Of course, it's just the beginning for Skenes, who is still expected to possibly crack the Pirates' Major League roster by season's end.
