LSU football coach Brian Kelly believes fifth-year senior Kyren Lacy is poised to have a breakout season in 2024. Kelly likes the consistency Lacy has shown during spring football. He caught 30 passes last year but also dropped a few. Lacy thanks his teammates for picking him up.
“After week four I felt myself going down, Malik Nabers and all those guys started bringing me up, telling me what to do on and off the field, so I just trusted those guys.”
Listening to Nabers and Brian Thomas Junior was a wise decision for Lacy. Nabers and Thomas are future first-round picks and learning from them helped Lacy improve during the second half of the 2023 season.
He had four catches for 111 yards and a touchdown against Auburn. The former Thibodaux High star caught five passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns against Georgia State. He caught a season-high six passes in the bowl game against Wisconsin.
“Seeing those guys coming to practice everyday, it was a blessing, because it really opened my eyes, just watching everything they do.”
Now Lacy is the leader of the wide receiver room and he says he’s ready for it.
He says the chemistry he and the other receivers have developed with starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is encouraging.
“I tell him just throw it anywhere, I’m going to go get it, it doesn’t matter, it goes for all of the receivers, just throw it anywhere we are going to get it, when the ball is in the air the only thing we are going to worry about is the ball,” said Lacy.
LSU’s new look passing game will be on display this Saturday in the Spring Game.
