Pelicans fans shouted "Not on Herb!" throughout the 2023-24 NBA campaign, lobbying for the New Orleans Pelicans' small forward to get a spot on the NBA's All-Star roster and, later, postseason honors.

While Jones failed to gain the votes for an all-star bid, he earned the votes to join an elite group of players on the NBA's All-Defensive Team.

Jones, 25, a third-year player out of Alabama, was named to the association's first-team all-defensive squad. He joins Miami's Bam Adebayo, the Los Angeles Lakers' Anthony Davis, Minnesota's Rudy Gobert, and San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama on that roster. According to NBA officials, Jones finished fourth in voting, besting Davis by eight points in the poll.

Jones led the Pelicans in steals with 105 and ranked second in blocks with 62 during the '23-'24 season. Fifteen of Jones's blocks came against three-point shots, solidifying Jones's reputation as one of the NBA's top perimeter defenders. Jones's efforts helped the Pelicans reach the top ten in scoring defense in each of the last two seasons.
