DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks are acquiring Pelicans sharpshooter JJ Redick and forward/center Nico Melli in a trade with the Pelicans, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Dallas sent James Johnson, Wes Iwundu and a second-round pick to New Orleans to complete the deal.

Redick, 36, is averaging 8.7 points per game on 40.7 percent shooting from the field and 36.4 percent shooting from three-point range in 31 games this season for New Orleans.

Melli, 30, averages 2.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in 22 games of action.

The Mavericks have improved greatly from deep over the last month of the season as they have climbed to 15th in the league in three-point percentage (36.3%). However, teams can always use more shooting.

Dallas finished 11th in the NBA in three-point shooting (36.6%) last season, but they made an effort to improve their defense in the offseason, which resulted in them trading away their best long-range shooter in Seth Curry to the Sixers.

Reddick now gives the Mavs another shooter to put around star guard Luka Doncic for the home stretch.
