It's week five of the high school football season, and teams are already making their pushes towards the playoffs. Forty-two teams remain undefeated as we approach the halfway mark of the season, and some of those "0"s have got to go this week. Several unbeaten teams are scheduled to face each other, providing those teams with playoff-caliber competition six weeks before the start of the post season.
Speaking of the playoffs, the LHSAA is working to resolve the issues surrounding the split playoff format and the lawsuit forcing the association to revert back to the pre-2022 select/non-select assignments.
Meanwhile, off-the-field drama continues to plague several prep teams in Louisiana, including two in the New Orleans metro area. One of those schools has been forced to cancel the rest of its football season because of allegations it recruited players.
