The LHSAA football playoff brackets are out, and Southeast Louisiana is represented well in the eight brackets.
Nearly 60 teams from the region qualified for the playoffs, with several receiving byes in the first round.
In Division I non-select, Hahnville will host Ouachita Parish in the opening round. The winner will play top-seeded Ruston in the second-round. Denham Springs will host Covington, while Ponchatoula travels to Benton. The winners of those games will meet in the second round. Chalmette will travel to West Monroe. Northshore will host Salmen in a Slidell showdown. The winner will travel to Lafayette Parish next week to play fourth-ranked Southside. East St. John will host Walker in the first round. Defending state champion Westgate will host Belle Chasse. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Slidell/Hammond game next week in the regional round. Destrehan received third seed and a first-round bye. They’ll play the winner of the Dutchtown/Parkway bi-district game.
In Division I Select, Warren Easton is the top seed and automatically advances to the regional round. They’ll play the winner of the bi-district playoff between Tioga/Captain Shreve. Riverdale will play Acadiana in the opening round, with the winner of that game playing #8 Carencro in the second round. St. Paul’s will host Holy Cross, with the winner to face fifth-ranked Northwood of Shreveport in the regional round. Brother Martin will host Woodlawn of Baton Rouge in the first round, with the winner to play fourth-ranked St. Augustine in the second round. Jesuit will go on the road to play Huntington, with the winner advancing to play #3 John Curtis in the round of 16. East Jefferson will hit the road to play Scotlandville, with the winner advancing to face seventh-ranked Edna Karr in the second round. Archbishop Rummel will host John Ehret in the opening round, with the winner scheduled to play second-seeded Catholic of Baton Rouge.
In Division II Select, Helen Cox will host St. Michael the Archangel in the bi-district round. The winner will play #1 St. Thomas More in the regional round. John F. Kennedy received the fifth seed and a first-round bye. JFK will host the winner of the Archbishop Hannan/Kenner Discovery game in the second round. Fourth-ranked E. D. White received a bye and will host the winner of the Evangel/Istrouma bi-district contest. De La Salle earned the third seed and a bye. They’ll face the winner of the Lord Beaconsfield Landry/Vandebilt Catholic game. Livingston Collegiate will host Frederick Douglass, with the winner advancing to play seventh-seeded Archbishop Shaw. McDonough #35 will host Peabody. George Washington Carver will host Booker T. Washington.
In Division II Non-Select, Pearl River will travel to Leesville in the bi-district round. Lutcher will host Wossman. Lakeshore will host Albany, with the winner of that game advancing to play #3 Opelousas in the regional round. Franklinton will go on the road to play Cecilia, with the winner of that game advancing to face #4 North DeSoto in the regional round.
In Division III Select, Isidore Newman is the #1 seed. They’ll host the winner of the Sophie B. Wright/D’Arbonne Woods Charter first-round game. St. Charles is the second seed. They’ll host the winner of this week’s game between Ascension Episcopal and Patrick Taylor. Metairie Park Country Day will host Green Oaks. Northlake Christian will host Houma Christian. Thomas Jefferson will travel to Martin Luther King Charter.
In Division III Non-Select, Bogalusa is the second seed and will host the winner of the Jewel Sumner/Berwick bi-district game. St. James is the fourth seed and will host the winner of the Loreauville/Vidalia opening-round game. Pine will host Westlake in the bi-district round. St. Helena College and Career Academy will travel to South Plaquemines. Amite will host Rayville.
In Division IV Select, St. Martin’s Episcopal received the fourth seed and a first-round bye. They’ll host the wiener of the St. John/Delhi Carter first-round game. Riverside Academy received the seventh seed and a bye. They’ll host the winner of this week’s Ascension Catholic/Lincoln Prep game. Covenant Christian will travel to Ville Platte to play Sacred Heart.
In Division IV Non-Select, Kentwood is the top seed and automatically advances to the regional round. They’ll host the winner of the General Trass/East Beauregard bi-district contest. Varnado will travel to Welsh for an opening round game.
The state championship games will be played December 8, 9, and 10 in the Caesar’s Superdome.
