It's Thanksgiving week, and 64 teams remain in the hunt for state championships as the LHSAA football playoffs reach the quarterfinals.
All eight of last year's state champions are represented in the field of 64, while five others were runners-up last year. Meanwhile, nine unbeaten teams remain on the road to the Superdome as we inch closer to the LHSAA Prep Classic. District and geographic rivalries will be renewed in some matchups, including Istrouma at Madison Prep and Southern Lab at Kentwood. In other cases, this week's matchups come with long-standing grudges and playoff histories: Welsh at Haynesville and Rummel at Catholic-Baton Rouge are perfect examples.
