An Archbishop Rummel High School senior football player has some extra cash for college thanks to Dr. Pepper and LSU linebacker Harold Perkins, Jr.

Chris Parker won the Dr. Pepper/Harold Perkins, Jr., Scholarship. That $5,000 scholarship, which Dr. Pepper representatives presented to Parker on Thursday, will go towards Parker's college tuition.

Parker, a stong safety, recorded 40 tackles, seven interceptions, two forced fumbles and one blocked punt during the 2025 season. That output helped Rummel reach the Division I-Select quarterfinals.

Parker was the Week 9 winner of the Dr. Pepper/Harold Perkins, Jr., Player of the Week Award, putting him in the drawing for the scholarship. Rummel head coach Nick Monica nominated Parker for the award, saying that Parker exhibited dedication, leadership, and character that goes above and beyond the expectations laid out by his teachers and coaches.

"On the football field, Chris brings intensity and heart to every practice and game," Monica said about Parker. "His work ethic inspires his teammates, and his positive attitude lifts the entire program. Whether he’s leading by example during drills or encouraging a teammate after a tough play, Chris demonstrates what it means to be a true Raider."

Monica also highlighted Parker's excellence in his other activities, including track-and-field, the Rummel creative writing and newspaper club, and his budding interest in photography.

"Chris Parker embodies the qualities of leadership, integrity, and service," Monica said. "He is not only a talented athlete but also a well-rounded student and role model who represents our school’s values with pride. I have no doubt he will continue to excel and inspire wherever life takes him."
