Report: Saints rookie out indefinitely

NFL, Saints
USA Today

The Saints preseason finale saw rookie left tackle Trevor Penning leave the game on cart after suffering a right foot injury. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Penning is out indefinitely after tearing a ligament in his toe. An MRI has determined surgery is required for the 19th overall pick in the 2022 draft and he is out indefinitely.

Penning was trying to earn a starting job, competing with James Hurst, who is working his way back from his own toe injury issue that he suffered back in Green Bay during joint practices with the Packers. Saints head coach Dennis Allen did say Friday night that Hurst is expected back sooner than later. Fingers...and toes crossed
