Chargers-Saints OT thriller featured a Taysom Hill TD, a field goal doink and much more

A second-half comeback? Check. An incredible, juggling grab? Check. A shocking, gutsy call at the goal line? Check. A see-sawing finale? Check. A doinked field goal? Check.

The end of the Week 5 contest between the Los Angeles Chargers and the New Orleans Saints had everything, from frequent Twitter calls for Jameis Winston to last-minute, edge-of-your-seat field plays on both sides of the ball.

The Saints, who trailed 20-10 at the half, drew within one score on a Wil Lutz field goal in the third quarter. Down seven entering the fourth quarter, the previously struggling Drew Brees connected with tight end Jared Cook on what was the veteran's first reception of the night.

An injury to Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen made it tough for Justin Herbert and co. to build their lead as the Saints crawled back to tie the game, but lightning struck not long after the Cook TD when Mike Williams exploded for a wide-open, 64-yard score.

Brees got the ball back with 3:34 left on the clock in the fourth quarter and continued to play well, turning around his slow start and finding Emmanuel Sanders on two different plays. Then, one of the most impressive catches we've seen all year, courtesy of the incredible Alvin Kamara, brought the Saints much closer to tying up the contest.

And so, after leading the team on an impressive drive into the red zone, Drew Brees was... pulled? That's right. Saints head coach Sean Payton opted to send in Taysom Hill on a crucial third down with less than a minute to go. The result? Tie ball game.

But Mike Williams' heroics weren't over. With the clock ticking down, Herbert launched a heave downfield to a streaking, heavily-covered Williams, who may have one-upped Kamara's grab from minutes before.

Unfortunately, kicker Mike Badgley -- whose miss on an extra point attempt earlier in the game was the possible difference between a victory in the first place -- missed again in the worst way possible.

An overtime field goal from Lutz put pressure on the Chargers, who ultimately came up short at the hands of a great New Orleans defensive stop.
