To Shaheed’s credit I felt like he bounced back from the early mistake and went on to have one of the better all-around games of his career. It’s tough to get much done deep down the field with Jessie Bates and Justin Simmons waiting, but he made several key plays underneath and over the middle, and almost had a spectacular leaping touchdown that instead got him knocked out of bounds at the 2. He doesn’t make things look as easy as Olave, but he’s a good football player and finished the game with 8 catches for 83 yards. Olave is simply a warrior. Watching him out there it was pretty clear he wasn’t 100%, but he kept going out there and making big plays. He finished with 8 catches for 87 yards and had the key grab down to the 1 that set up the Saints’ short-lived lead. I’d still love a bigger-bodied receiver who you could go to in low red zone and chain-mover situations, but it’s hard to complain too much about those dudes. … The coaching staff. Honestly I think DA and Co. did one of their best coaching jobs for this game, it just featured a pair of the most bizarre touchdowns you’ll ever see. There’s no gameplan in the world that accounts for 14 free points for the other team. With a patchwork OL and key pieces missing up and down the roster you were still one play from stealing a win. You can put execution on the coaching, but I don’t see it that way in this game. … Matt Hayball again. I was hard on him in camp so I’ll keep giving him shoutouts when it’s due.
