49ers will not be among the teams meeting with Deshaun Watson

While a new suitor seems to emerge for Deshaun Watson every few minutes, the San Francisco 49ers will not be trading for them embattled Houston Texans' quarterback.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, Albert Breer of MMQB and Peter Schrager of FOX Sports were among those to debunk a report that surfaced Tuesday afternoon suggesting that the 49ers would be one of the teams meeting with Watson as a precursor to potentially trading for the 26-year-old.

Frankly, the idea never made much sense. The Texans will likely receive multiple first-round picks in return for Watson. The 49ers don't have a first-round pick in 2022 or 2023 because they sent those to the Miami Dolphins to trade up and select Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft.

It was one thing when there was speculation about the 49ers trading for 44-year-old Tom Brady. But John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan probably couldn't have pulled off a trade for Watson even if they wanted to, and we don't even know if they would have had interest given the allegations that Watson is facing.

While a grand jury in Harris County, Texas elected not to move forward with criminal proceedings against Watson last week, he still faces 22 civil lawsuits from 22 women who allege that the quarterback engaged in sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions.

A night after he reportedly met with the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers -- two suitors for his services -- Watson is slated to be deposed Tuesday by lawyer Tony Buzbee, who represents the 22 women who are suing Watson.
